I don't know any easy way to say this. Dominic passed away last night around midnight. There are'nt many details available about the accident. Nothing thats important or that I want to go into right now really. And there were no eye witnesses. At this point I'm in a state of basic shock and disbelief. I got the call about midnight and went to get his mom and dad to go to the ER. None of us had a phone number to call them and I figured they wouldn't be able to figure out where the hospital was anyway. And how could they be in a condition to drive with the news that Dominic had been in an accident. So off I went. I was with them at the ER most of the night. Left early this morning and went out to analyze the accident scene. At this point I have not slept at all.
Theres not much more to say I guess. Well, actually, there's so much to say and to do too which all can never be done now. Dominic was one of the most enthusiastic riders I have ever had the pleasure of riding with. His intentions were often misunderstood or misconstrued but I think he always meant well, even if he sometimes made etiquette mistakes causing some to take offense, which I attribute to his upbringing in Hong Kong. I admit I'm guilty of not cutting him any slack from time to time as witnessed on this site in some of the posts exchanged. Regardless, there was noone more ready to go for a scoot to just about anywhere on a moments notice than Dominic. Day or night, he loved to ride like I love to ride.... and in that we had a definite kinship and unmistakeable brotherly bond.
I can't say I knew him well really which now I realize is unfortunate. I know I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to taking the time for granted till its gone. But how is one to know when it all will end? I do know that we rode all day on Sunday from morning to late night and it was a great ride. Probably the best ever. And I am not just saying that because of his terrible accident. We really had the best time on that ride. We enjoyed two meals together, lots of laughs, and coffee too... later Sunday night. We had a nice one on one conversation, free of the distractions usually present cause there was no one else out! I could have never imagined that would be our last conversation that night, as it began raining and we reluctantly went off our separate ways.
So thats that. For what its worth. He was a good rider by any account and had steadily improved over this season alone. He had gotten a reputation as a crasher but I knew it was more misfortune and bad luck than lack of skill that had caused most of it. What he suffered from most was a lack of experience. He had done a lot of miles this year alone and we were looking forward to many more. This is the most unexpected tragedy and I pray for his family and friends. This is truly a sad day for the forum. A total loss for us actually. His enthusiasm for this sport was a beautiful thing! I dare say that he will be remembered for his efforts to unite sportriders in wny. I hope he realized that I cared about him and how much I enjoyed his company on our rides. RIP Dominic. May you find the perfect road in your travels buddy! RIP RIP RIP RIP RIP :( :( :( :( :(

Hello Everyone,
I would like to extend our condolences on behalf of everyone at Ontario Sport Riders.
I only got to know Dominic through our brief conversations on this forum. I really admired his enthusiasm for the sport and how he was always willing to help. When I needed advice or help with something he was always willing to lend a hand and that says a lot about a person. It's unfortunate that bad planning meant I never got to meet Dom in person.
Like many of you, I was in shock and disbelief when I read the post this morning. To the best of my knowledge, we at Ontario Sport Riders have not had someone within our club pass on from a bike accident. I can't imagine how we would deal with it and I can't imagine how all of you are coping with this tragedy.
But I want you to know that we extend our thoughts and prayers from our club to yours.
With regards,
Bill Kingston a.k.a PipesGuy

Holy shit, I can't believe this... When I read the title of this thread I thought it had to be some kind of friendly joke.
I only had the pleasure of meeting Dominic once on a ride to P.A. but to me he was the representative of WNY sport riders and what sport bike riding was all about. Even on the FZRarchives message board he stood out as somene I would like to ride with.
Every time I visited the site he was always welcoming new people and making you feel like you wanted to ride with him and the people of this site. Once I expressed intrest of goign for a ride with you guys he imediately PM'd me with directions, his cell number etc. making me feel welcome even before meeting anyone from the site personally.
Unfortunately I only had a chance to meet him once but talking to him you knew he lived to ride and was always looking to learn more about how to improve. He had no problems posting pic of his own accidents in the past as a way to help others learn from his mistakes.
I am deeply sad that I won't get a chance to ride with him again as that ride to PA was one of the most enjoyable rides I've even been on.
My condolences go out to his friends and family. RIP Airknight.

I met Dom through UBRF.org.... I've known him for like 2 years now.......
Words can't even express how I'm feeling right now.
We've all lost a great person to hang out with, and although I don't ride, from what I've heard and read he was a great guy to ride with.
He will surely be missed.

Where does one even start with such a great person passing away?
Dom was there for anyone on these boards that needed help. We have countless hours of chat, he was in my position last year so he gave me tons of advice, non-stop wisdom, what to do what not to do. I'm in complete shock, I can barely type, this is such a lost. I can say so much great things about him, but my head is just spinning. We were great friends, I enjoyed every minute being around him, the rides, the chats, the IMs, the posts, everything.
This one hits home very hard...
RIP Dom

I'm deeply troubled by Dom's passing. It could have been any one of us. I was at the scene of the accident before he was transported away, and feared the worst for our friend. I can only hope he went quickly, and without much pain. Sadly, there was nothing anyone could have done.
What happened last night will be burned into my mind forever. I don't care to ever see anything like that again, and hope none of you do either. Life is such a fragile thing. To see someone so young and full of life be taken away so unexpectedly is shocking. I take no comfort in knowing he died doing what he loved. Had he known it was going to kill him, he wouldn't have been doing it.
Dom and I didn't always see eye to eye, but in recent weeks, we had come to understand one another. He and George stopped in to cheer me up last weekend after my crash, which now seems surreal to me. We joked about it, and had a pretty good laugh. Dom, you will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
To Brian, please know there was nothing you could have done differently to save him. You did all anyone could have done.

I strongly suggest we try and drum up some cash for flowers/funeral expenses- im not sure of dom's family situation but we should try to help however we can. he always went the extra mile for us. i would volunteer but i will be away all weekend. if someone is centrally located and would like to collect please speak up. we could probably start an envelope at freewheelin and leave it with Chad for now.

I am absolutely speechless. I have no idea what to think, and immediately when I read this, my mind went into denial. I, as I'm sure any biker does, always cringes when you hear of any motorcycle accident, much less a fatal one. Since I have been riding, I have been fortunate enough that this is the first rider that has passed that I have known.
Dom took his MSF course with my roommate, and we have ridden before, once putting several hundred miles on our bikes by oursleves down and around southern NY. He was an amazing person, and his enthusiasm for the sport was unmatched. It is a terrible loss to have suffered, and I still don't know what to say.I feel absolutely horrid and send my deepest condolences to his family.
RIP
I will defiantely be watching for funeral details, and will be there.

Jesus. I just talked to Dom the other day....I can't believe this. We were talking about riding to thursday in the square this week....this is a total loss for everyone and wnysr.
Dominic was enthusiatic and passionate about everything he did. He was a good person. Someone I was proud to call a friend. I'm kind of at a loss right now. I was one of the first people he used to ask about learning how to ride. I remember how happy he was when he got his first bike, and could go riding with us. It was a big deal for him. And he came along way from when he started in riding skill. He was always willing to help out his friends with anything, sometimes even to the detrement of himself. He was truly selfless. I'm gonna miss the Power Ranger. Yeah, we used to joke to him about it, but the real reason we called him the Blue Ranger is when everything was fucking up on your end, he somehow always showed up to help. Just look for the blue FZR, and bam, he was right there.

hi all,
Me and dom met back in 1999 when we lived at UB together, before his bike and contour days. We made many trips to Markham and did some crazy driving on the QEW.

I think I've checked this post 30 + times already and each time I log in I'm hoping that I'd see something different. The first person I met from this sight was DOM; I was in the area and remember hearing about a meet place at mighty on the blvd. I pulled in not knowing what to expect and he walk up to me practically with open arms welcoming to the group even though we had never met. I cannot grieve enough for such a genuinely kind person like himself. Whether you've met him face to face or just by internet, you knew that he had nothing but enthusiasm for the sport and camaraderie for everyone that enjoyed it with him.... RIP Bro... You will be missed!

RIP Dom... Here's hoping you're riding smooth twisty roads and having fun wherever you are.
DD said it right "Life is such a fragile thing. To see someone so young and full of life be taken away so unexpectedly is shocking."
I rode with Dom a few times and always had a good time around him. He was over my house once, but I didn't know him real well. His love for this sport was obvious and he was always willing to help others.
My kids are older than he was. I can't think of anything worse than losing a child. He was so young and full of life. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dom and his family.
Brian,

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
I am also in shock, and although I only meet and rode with him a few times, I felt I much closer to him through this big beige box on my desk.
I too take no comfort in the fact that he left this world doing what he loved, but I do take solace in knowing that he did have a passion for life and that included riding and the friendships and camaraderie that came with it. I think it was someone on this board had a signature line that said “Some people confuse breathing with living”, Dom could not be accused of that.
Although our first reaction is always sorrow when events like this happen, we all have to remember, life itself is terminal. Instead of mourning the loss, we should be grateful we were touched in some way by our relationship with Dom, and that he lived life with a passion that many people never will. He was fundamental in pulling individuals into a group to share a common bond and develop friendships that may never have occurred without him. He will be missed, but can live on in our hearts and mind as long as we desire.
Dom:
May you tank always be full, your tires always be new, the weather always be sunny and the roads never straight.
I know you would have it no other way.
RIP
Aaron

May Dom's close friends and family find peace and comfort with the Lord, or who ever they pray to. May the roads above be twisty as can be. And may Dom keep the engines running with the tires warm for the rest of us for when we join him. Rest in peace.

I met Dom only once when I looked at his Fizzer he had for sale.
He was definitely a pretty cool guy. I spent a few hours taking to him and enjoyed every minute of the conversation.
I'd have to say though... after seeing the previous damage on his R6, and listening to him take about how hard he rides, it doesn't surprize me that something like this happened to him. It's really sad. How hard you ride should be saved for the professionals on a track, not a public road.
I just hope that everyone gains a little more respect for their machines from this. Motorcycles are not toys. I cannot believe how many deaths I have seen this summer alone. It's never been like this before. I see so many kids buzzing around with no respect for their own lives or the example they are setting for other riders.
The worst posible thing that could happen is for this to happen again to another one of you guys. It is pointless. Enjoy riding. Enjoy riding for a long time to come.
Most importantly, be safe and promote safety to others.
RIP Dominic - I'm glad I had the chance to meet you.
Please do not take anything in my post the wrong way. It just angers me to keep seeing motorcycle accidents take peoples lives. It has been so excessive this summer. PLEASE BE SAFE.

I met dom once, and he was a happy guy....
we have lost a good one, but it reminds me that life is fragile, and that everyone is mortal.

[quote] I'd have to say though... after seeing the previous damage on his R6, and listening to him take about how hard he rides, it doesn't surprize me that something like this happened to him. It's really sad. How hard you ride should be saved for the professionals on a track, not a public road.[quote]
You are talking out of context here. Dominic was probably just trying to impress you. He was a young person/rider and very interested in gleening the respect of others... not only his age group but even more so fellow riders... and those whom he idolized. Lots of people talk the talk, that doesn't mean it isn't just talk. So don't take such talk the wrong way. Ride with the rider in question first.... then post your impressions of that riders ability and riding behaviors!
Dominic was not native to our country. He didn't even look like everyone else. Can you imagine for a second how hard it was for him? He had to contend with being oriental in america. And I would imagine all the biases to go along with it. How hard do you imagine it was for him to find acceptance amongst his peers? I saw some of this myself amongst the UBRF club he frequented.
Fact is this: I rode thousands of miles with Dominic over our too short acquantance. He was a thoughtful and intelligent rider, and a careful and conscientous rider too. This was easy to see as he never rode his bikes without full leathers and was known for his feelings that everyone should always ride in similar attire. And I am not saying he was perfect. He made mistakes like any of us that are human beings and susceptible to human frailties. Those mistakes led to the bobbles you mention on his R6. Same bobbles you or I or anyone would have if they rode as much in as varied a circumstances as Dominic did.
I actually encouraged him to wait/put off his trip to Deals Gap till I could go along with him so he would have an expert rider to follow and thus limit his exposure to danger and accident possibilities. Not to mention to have a trained professional along in case danger reared her ugly head! He was so anxious to go that he went anyway without me and ended up falling down a few times on that treacherous road. It was nothing serious but I like to think if he had been riding with me that neither fall would have happened. He loved/lived the sport so much that his enthusiasm could not be contained. So eager to ride he could not be held back... come weather or time schedule!
So please save me such speak as you post above as you really don't know what your talking about. Dominic had come leaps and bounds forward in his riding over the last year and a half. I witnessed that personally. And after analyzing the accident completely I contend that the conditions surrounding his demise were not only preventable but terribly unfortunate.
In summary.... That could have been me or any other rider on that unfamiliar road suffering that same fate due to circumstances beyond control or expectation. Go to the scene for gods sake and view for yourself. What would you have done if you hit the same gravel that you could not have expected to be there? Gravel your headlights could not have shown you! Would any of us have fared better?

I only had the chance to talk to Dom once. He welcomed me to this sight and really wanted to know how I found out about it. He told me about the meets on Saturdays and really hoped I would come out and ride with them. From the brief time I spoke with him, he made me feel "at home" with this forum and the people on it. Such a tragic event. I pray for his family and his friends, that they will be able to get through this. He is in a better place now.
RIP - Dom
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Sadly, I didn't get to ride with him.
I remember specifically calling him "nuts," and he just looked at me and smiled.
He was very mature, in fact, so much so that I though he was more in his late 20's. I'm sure that he will be missed by a lot of people.
When someone dies is the complete wrong time to say "I told you so," and I didn't mean for any of that to come out that way. I apologize.
So far there have been 3 times as many motorcycle accidents this year from last year, and we have a way to go still.
PLEASE BE SAFE.

well last night me and boinker built a cross and put it up at the scene. while we were there Big Jeff showed up, with his girl. (sorry forgot her name) and we all signed the cross. me and boinker looked at hte sign it was in my opinion a high side with a really hard landing. where the marks in the road where he hit nothing. the landing is what did it. we got to talk to two of the people first on the scene. going there actually helped a little bit to deal with this. Dom R.I.P till we ride again.......

I only had the chance to really talk to him once and ride with him on a ubrf cruise just about a month ago. He was a great guy that was easy to talk to. I remember chatting to him and how I showed interest in riding with you guys once or twice to see what it's like even tho I don't ride a sport bike and he was totally open to the idea and said he would love for me to join you all sometime. I feel very bad that I didn't get the chance to ride with dom and all you. I wish everyone the best of luck and RIP in dom

let us not forget that Dom was apparently going at the speed limit or even under it and that IT WAS THE GRAVEL THAT CAUSED HIS CRASH!!
Curvecrazy is 100% correct: This could have happened to any of us!

I heard about this on the news and at first I didn't recognize the name. Then when they said he started wnysportriders.org, I figured I would check it out. I remember riding with him a couple times. I had to look in some of my old pictures to see if I had any of him and I actually took the picture that it looks like he used to make his sig pic:

I haven't been around much since before this site was started. I remember the old one and I have to say I am really, truly impressed with dom's contribution here. A site like this is really alot of work. It shows what kind of a guy I remember him as.
RIP dom, we'll miss you.

Ah yes, he LOVED that pic! I'll always remember his chubby little smile peaking out of his helmet, every time I busted his balls about his "denim knee sliders"! That really is a great pic.

I will truely miss him. He used to call me when ever he was going riding and go up to MT. He gave allot to the sport/site and he never asked anything in return. What truely is depressing is that he was so young. I was trying to get him an internship where I work. He always keeped a smile reguardless of what people said.

i took the msf with these guys, it was a good time. I almost didn't make it, as jay (subjd40) just had a party that friday night, and i was feeling a little sick saturday. heh.
he was a safe rider, a good friend, and this is a loss for everyone. but you just have to be glad for those times you did get to ride with him, meet him etc.

I met Dom once. He pretty much wrecked in my mirrors. It was my second time at the Dragon and I helped him pick up his bike while he was there. Gravel was his downfall there as well. What a great guy, I had talked to him over IM until one day he stopped. If I can judge this group on him I am anxious to make a trip to NY and meet the rest of you. If any of you are down this way and need a place to stay or a person to hang out with, shoot me an e-mail.
We have a similar group down here
