I'll post this up on some other boards in hopes of snaging some other riders from the area. I noticed that CNY was not in there, so I guess that we're not welcome. just kidding. Hopefully I'll be able to come out for a ride this summer. I used to live up there, so there are some roads that should be fun to ride.

Only if you don't mind them folded to fit in my leather pocket....if I bring you a couple on our weekend rides. I plan to have a couple in my pocket on our rides till we get cards made to hand out to others we meet on the road.

Must we wear a jacket and gloves in order to ride? This part of the spring isn't bad, but come summer I don't like to wear much more than a hoody.

obviously youve never slid down the pavement at any rate of speed. at some point in your riding career, due to your own mistake or another driver's, you will become involuntarily separated from your machine and united with the street. have you ever seen someone who has crashed without the proper equipment? have you ever seen a skin graft? there is no heat like the heat of friction. i would rather sweat gallons in my leathers looking like a retarded powerranger waiting for a light to turn than look cool when i get rear ended by some asshole who was noticing how cool i look. think how cool itll be when you have to get your mom to wipe your ass because you dont have any skin on your hands because it was too hot to wear gloves.
even if you don't have an off, ride in traffic and get pelted with some road grit and see what it does to your bare shoulders. i got hit with a one inch rock last year with full gear on and i pulled over because i thought someone shot me.
the heat you endure in your leathers over an entire season is nothing compared to the heat of pavement slowing you down as your skin peels off in just 10 seconds time.
It's up to you what you wear when you ride, but its not always up to you what happens when youre out there. talk to someone who learned the hard way and look at their shiny pink new skin. T-shirts and sandals have a place- its on the beach. if you dont want to take riding as the serious commitment that it is, take up a new hobby- you can always ride a jetski naked. nobody in this group wants to scrape you off the pavement with no gear. :squid:

bummer they dont make fast enough film to catch you in your naked speed endeavours...but we can always tag along and see first hand if its possible to ride a jet ski naked

Basically yes! A hoody isn't going to give you any abrasion protection, and no gloves means skin graft on your hands. For our casual rides minimum would be helmet/riding jacket/gloves/over-ankle boots. That's not just for your protection but ours as well, I'm sure nobody wants to suffer having to scrap you off the road when you spill.

Hi there Rocketgrrrrrl,

I echo your comments exactly.
I'm a new rider and I've already bought full leathers, boots and gloves (gauntlet style) before I ever get my bike.
I get mine on Friday the 23rd.
A friend of mine convinced me because I was going to buy nylon/gore-tex/ya know.
He says, "You don't see racers wearing nylon do ya?" Good point.
Then I got told about "the scrub brush of death" when they have to take gravel out of your skin if you go down where there's gravel.
That sold me on leather.
Ask yourself the question, "How much is my skin worth?"
Hopefully I will be able to make it down to Buffalo on a weekend and ride with some of you.
I'll be wearing full gear.

Don't forget about having good armor in your leathers! I've heard so many people argued that you don't really need those armor when riding on the street, I don't know why they figure that!? If you crash directly into something at even 35mph you're gonna be hurting a long time!

Any chance posting the flyer as a PDF so we can download it and print it out at home?

You are wise beyond your years RG, Very good advice.

And you are correct, as a veteran First aid-er (16 YEARS Ski Patrol), I would probably get stuck rendering first aid, when I really just want to ride.

And that is the reason I don’t want to ride with a bunch of people that don’t take riding serious enough to use the proper gear.
