View Full Version : Laguna Seca Recap
So who else caught the races?
Loved the retro Yamaha colors on the factory bikes (The Bumblebee scheme), great day for Niky Hayden finally getting the monkey off of his back. Colin did well too, and Vale, is well, Vale. I think next year he wins Laguna.
And of course JD got 1st in Supersport (the only Yamaha to win a race that weekend), and 2nd in Superstock behind Aaron "Hater in da House" Yates.
Check out the victory smoke show in the pits :)

Congrats to Nicky, Colin and Jason. I honestly think there was some BS going on during the Moto GP because there is no way Rossi was giving that race his all or even close to it. Watch any of the races and his performances/riding prior to Laguna Seca and you'll probably agree. He is way more of a fighter and competitor than he was Sunday. Call it what you will but I think there was $$$ and agreements involved!! That or he was just sick or something cause I've seen him ride much better. fwiw..
Nah George, Laguna is just a bit scary. A lot of the Euros were having problems with turn 2-3, and the screw takes some getting used to. They were all braking early except for the US boys, Troy Bayliss, and Capirossi. I think when they return next year, Rossi will be closer to Nicky's pace.

i heard @ the begining of the week that he was practiceing the course on his ps2. he has never raced on this course rt? i donno could be a fix but i dont think so, could just be plain and simple nick had court field.
i saw the numbers for attendance and it was poor only 68,000. In europe we are looking at 100k plus.
USA lacks in f1 and moto gp fans so lets be thankful that we had a race this yr. next yr i wanna go if they are here!

Rossi had never been to Laguna. Also he was one of the riders concerned with "safety" of the track. Also I believe he was one of the European riders to complain about bumps in the pavement. U.S. riders are used to crappy tracks with some irregular surfaces.
Plus the U.S. guys have raced Laguna in the AMA series for years. ;) I think you're right though CC, he didn't give it his all but he didn't have to. I think he rode at a comfortable pace to help preserve his points lead but, I also don't think he could hang with Nicky.
It would've been a different story if Giberneau or Melandri passed Rossi then you would've seen some sparks fly.
As far as attendance goes, I could be wrong, but I believe Laguna sold out. The Euro tracks also have more room for fans. I'm not 100% sure though.

I saw something about this on the tripple-secret trilateral commission website before the race; it also said something about the singer would screw up the National Anthem to send a signal to the european viewers that the U.S. is on the verge of dissolution with Cuba taking control of the property formerly known as the Louisiana Purchase...

I thought the same, that Rossi wanted them to win (hometown hero) I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one to think that.
I understand the course is a bit intimidating but we're talking about Rossi.
Dave B for divulging that secret info your life is in danger.Change your name and go underground for the sake of your life. :phear:

Yes, exactly. We are talking about Rossi. A rider with "heart". Have you ever seen him ride with what appeared to be so little desire? I haven't. Theres no way the Rossi I know woulda just let Edwards go away from him. We're talking a rider here who can pull off manuevers in places that seem impossible and he pulls it off like easy. In my mind, he really only ever rides to his potential in the last lap or two of any given race or as necessary maintain his competitive positions. This is a master in every sense of the word and results too on an inferior(agreed?) machine.
Its never seemed to me that Rossi had any problems duplicating other riders lines and braking points. Hell, he not only duplicates, he exceeds and usually wins in the doing. In extremely fast and tight situations that leave the rest of us mindboggled.
Ha ha ha Dave. Your funny.
Was it rigged? It seemed pretty obvious to me. fwiw

I'm not sure if it was 100% rigged (in terms of agreement and $) but I know that Hayden rode a race like he never rode one before, and as for Rossi, there were a few things that seemed to play well for him.
Melandri crashed on the 1st lap, max and Sete finished 3 seconds behind him (not even close to him) so he was going for points. There was no point(s) in crashing trying to keep up w/ or beating Hayden and Edwards, that he could get so much easier on another track.
Since they have announced that they will be coming back next year, I think Rossi will be doing some training at Laguna this winter, along with some of the other teams. You could really see where the Euro riders were having problems and making mistakes (Rossi ran wide) on the track.
I wonder if they will be doing more saftey changes this winter. I saw a few walls that looked questionable. I'd have to review the race footage again to name them.
As for attendance. Laguna is a very small track compared to some of the other tracks on the circuit. That along with it being a rather old track, makes it rather small for seating. There were a bunch of places that I would have thought to see fans sitting, but there where none. They might add more seating for next year too... who knows.
Over all it was a huge success for the US in terms of MotoGP racing. Other then the horrible national anthem and one top of that they were singing it during the minute of slience for the London Bombing victims.... it seemed to run rather smoothly.
I did not get to watch it on Speed, but I heard that their commentators sucked, and they did not use the normal guys. Hopefully that will change next year as well.

ya it was those guys that do the AMA races.. they are terrable, the european guys are better, I think it's mostly becasue I am used to hearing their accent when watching MotoGP. And they get so excited over the smallest things. lol

I think the accent helps, but acutally KNOWING the racers is a good thing too.

I was there. 58000 people was enough trust me. It took 2 hours and 45 minutes to get into the track on Saturday. And it took 2 hours to get a tshirt for the event. You have to remember this track is way short for a moto GP track. European tracks are way longer and more spacious. It was fun in person and I think Rossi just could not get comfortable there.
