I think its safe to say we all had a good time last night at the end of 2003 season party at Buffalo Wild Wings. There were 9 of us in all including Dominic, Jeff&wife, JoeFoe, Brian, Dirty Duck>I mean Jim, Tom, and myself of course >george, and a surprise and welcome appearance by sweaters>ie...Jerry. I say surprise because he is leaving for his annual trek and winter stay in Arizona immediately. Therefore, we might have thought him too busy packing to say goodbye. But no, Sweaters in never too busy for good chicken wings and beer! When he said he had extra room in his car my leg inadvertently jerked in a lets go already sort of way. Like my body was ready to head right out to Arizona without even consulting my brain! Mmmm. Sunny and warm riding weather!

Indeed, the nice weather was the only thing missing from our get together, and that did nothing to dampen(pardon the pun...it was raining out) our spirits. Unfortunately, there were no motorcycles on the premesis. Anyways. We all watched videos and checked out pictures from the past year and recouped the many good times we had. And we had some great food too.

This past riding season was awesome. Our new members showed great and renewed enthusiasm for local riding. This year, Dominic and Brian showed us that new comers to the group can be a motivating force in our local rides. They brought their youth and desire to the fold and we were all better for it. Both made dramatic improvements in their riding. Either of them were eager to jump on their bikes at a moments notice to go for a scoot round the local twisties! Then, Jim made his appearance later in the year. We ran into each other out at Holland Ducati(strange....nobody ever goes there?) and went for a quick ride. We had so much fun on that little jaunt that we agreed to ride together again. We did ride again and he was so impressed that he decided to join the group. As busy as he is, he managed to get out and ride with us a lot at the end of the season. My only regret is that I didn't run into him earlier in the year. I think its safe to say we have collectively found him amusing! :D I enjoyed riding with him very much and for what little street riding experience he has, he is a very good rider.

We had 8 or 9 guys on the final ride of the year. One rider came all the way out from PA to ride with us! That ride ended the year on a positive note as I think that was one of the best rides we had all year.

So I guess what this is all saying is that this club is coming back together again and out of an era of lost enthusiasm and possible confusion. A new era for the WesternNewYorkSportriders! We are, and will be once again focusing ourselves on riding on the street and enjoying the comraderie, and the passion and of course....the adventure of riding our motorcycles on the best backroads in Western New York, Ontario, and Pennsylvania. We are also looking forward to some trips to exotic riding venues as well as attending some track days too. But our emphasis will be where it should be >on local street riding<. The very place where you and me can take an hour or two from our busy schedules and enjoy our motorcycles in a relaxed environment within minutes of our homes! We now have 5-6 very active and enthusiastic members who are showing up consistently for the rides. The rides this year were exhilerating and I looked forward to participating. Guys and gals are showing up wanting to ride and participate! Bringing along with them new interest and enthusiasm for our sport. The upcoming year promises to unearth many more riders as we all will be promoting the club to the folks in our various circles of travel. I am always excited about the possibilities of the new riding season, but this year will be a special year for our group. We need only look across the border at the Fuzzy-riders club to see the possibilities. They have a thriving group of enthusiasts over there. We can and will be as thriving.

I also want to thank the members that have put in extensive effort in the making of the new website possible including Jeff and Dominic and anyone else that lent a hand. Thank you for investing your time and talent in making a better website for our group. The new website will allow us to market ourselves to new members more effectively as well as making it easier for all the current members to use. The revamping of the website and the bringing of the WesternNewYorkSportriders into a new era has been long overdue. On that note. They can't(and shouldn't have to)do it all themselves. We need some more members to step up and make donations to cover the costs of our new website. Many of us have already donated $10 each.

Dominic still needs more cash to cover the hosting fees. All donations are appreciated. I know you guys are participating members at cycleforum.com, or gixxer.com, or apriliaforum.com or the ducati forum or the R1-forum, or one of the many other national sites. That is fine and I recommend it. But this will be our local site and we need to support this site and make this happen. This will be where we can come with our issues and questions and get help and support from other local members. This will be the site where the local rides and events will be posted, where we can all go to see whats goin on! Wanna go for a ride but don't wanna ride by yourself? Post here that your going. :D

This is the very type of environment the Fuzzy-Riders have in Ontario. Its working out very well for them. They have a place to go to communicate and chat and just pass the time during the cold winter months. They have a busy site. And we can have too. Dealers, and others will be less inclined to take advantage of us if they know we are not just some "lone rider" but rather a member of a strong and cohesive local group of riders who talk and gather regularly and pass the word about good and bad dealings. We have enough members here that this should be a group thing rather than a few individuals shouldering all the burden. Lets step up here and make some donations to Dominic to cover the costs of this site!

To all the riders interested in riding that are lurking and possibly nervous about attending a group ride. We all started where you are. Let me repeat that. We all started where you are. Not a one of us became an expert rider in a day. Nor will you. Nor did Valentino Rossi or any other top rider. If you are in the WNY vacinity and you ride, or have an interest in riding, you owe it to yourself to get involved on this site. This is where you will meet the people who will help you along. If you ride, it is important that you ride well. For your own safety and long term enjoyment of the sport. This site can be a resource for you. We have the knowledgeable members here to help you reach your goals. You can only benefit from getting involved in the new website and making plans to attend the rides and functions of this upcoming year. There is nothing to fear. We will help you learn the ropes.

As experienced riders, we are ready and willing to accomodate you when you come out for the rides. As a rule >You will not be left behind<. We are all ready and willing to help out and answer questions or offer pointers and explain anything you may be concerned about. We accomodate a range of riders from extremely skilled(expert) to only a few thousand miles(beginner). We will take you under our wing and help you. There are endless things to know about sportriding and motorcycling in general. You can't learn it all by reading magazines. And if you tried, you would miss out on most of the fun and comraderie available to you with our local club. Besides, it has long been known that one of the best ways to learn is to place yourself around others who are more skilled and learn by observing. First you watch. Then you ask questions. Then you watch somemore. By involving ourselves with better riders, we become better riders.

We are open and eager to recruiting new members here and mutually agree that the club can only benefit from your participation. It doesn't matter if you ride an older bike. All that matters is that you want to ride. The beautiful thing about this sport is that its not about the machinery as much as its about the ride and experience. So get involved in the adventure. Its all about fun and we like to have a lot of it! Come out and get acquainted. We have Saturday/Sunday morning rides from early March to late November. And plan on participating in one or more of the trips we will be doing this year...including the Sportbike Rally in Parry Sound, the Americade, Honda Hoot, Deals Gap and the Motorcycle Playground. And don't forget the track days we will be participating in at Cayuga, Mosport, Beaver Run, Virginia International Raceway, Louden, Grattan, Mid Ohio etc... No matter what your motorcycling plans, theres probably someone else here locally who would love to participate too so post it on the new website and open up the dialogue. Thats where it all starts. So come out and join us. Theres a lot of riding to be done!

Lets make 2004 the best year yet for the WesternNewYorkSportriders. :D

Hey George! finally I log on to WNY.org, looks nice!.

Posting live from GDL-Mex. Land of Tequila, all year sun, and lidless riders. 'been here since November, and I may never go back to Ontario!.

If any of you plan a winter holiday, just wanted to let you know there are a couple of bike events around here.
April 14-18 Mazatlan (http://www.motoclubmazatlan.com/Evento.htm)hosts the big national bike event, right on the beach.
There are others, just check with the local sportbike club webpage (http://www.motoclubsportdeguadalajara.com/fotografias.html).
In October the big bike party is in Puerto Vallarta. don't have the exact days yet, because we're still organizing it. That's right my gringo friends, I've infiltrated the locals, and now have the tourism dept, several gov't depts, police and ambulance, all signed up. We're now signing sponsors, Corona is on board, local hotels and bike stores are next.
Come down and help out!, or just show up for the parties.
Cheers!

-Hugo aka Superfreak.
No longer on the RC36, next may be on a DR650 or suchlike bike.

ok i thot it would be cool to click on some of these buttons but it made my message disappear, so to recap, im reentering the sportbike world after letting the old license cool off a bit, and will be smokin by yer asses this season on a new r6. beware all poser spanks on yellow zuki twins- dont follow me into corners if you can't hang. i know u went home and told yer girlfriend some chick made you crash, but if you were focused on yer line instead of my ass you would have made it. for the rest of you, ill be seein ya as soon as my machine gets in and gets lowered. For anyone out there who knows a thing or two about lowering sportbikes, please share the info or direct me to an article. it sure is hard to reach the ground when yer only 5 feet tall.

I don't lower my bikes. I get used to it, then I might even raise the rear end a little for better ground clearance, and you know I'm not the tallest of the bunch. :) BTW, I'd ride slow and stay behind just to stare your ass, but then Corey would probably try to beat me silly; so I think I'll stay up front.

unfortunately i cant really touch the ground on either side.

I slide my ass off the seat and reach on only one side. Just need to pick where you stop more carefully.

BTW, THIS IS GREAT! 155 members and still going up. :)

Rocketgrrl - I suggest you talk to the folks at works shocks - www.worksperformance.com/ - they can manufacture you a shock that will reduce ride height without compromising performance (especially if you are light). Their prices are kind of steep, but ask them about re-working your stock shock (they told me that they can do that for much less $$).

To do the job right, you will probably also want to lower your tripple clamp - I suggest you get professional imput/assistance with this.

http://www.r6messagenet.com ask there to see if there is any replacement dogbones available for the 03+.

rocketgrrrrl
03-31-2004, 02:40 PM
ive actually got a good mechanic who will work for homemade cookies and beer, and he's usually got a good assortment of dogbones that he hooks me up with for free. he lowered my zx6r with a dogbone and some shock adjustments, but it was already pretty beat in terms of suspension, so it didnt need to be changed all that much. the r6 is super tall, and i dont think my 115# (after a hearty meal) does much to squat it. im going into super-duper stupid debt to get this machine, so im kind of hesitant to take it to one of the pro shops, unless of course there happens to be a handsome, single mechanic there.......

Thats fine, ill just post this now then, since i will never get to 30 posts.
Ive got to ditch my XXS Shoei hot wheels lid. wore it once last season- dominic probably clearly remembers the BACK of it in vivid detail...but it fits my girlish dome all wrong and made me miserable, so if any of you guys out there have little peanut heads, or girlfriends with the same, let me know. It's a sweet lid, got hot wheels logos and some cool tribal graphics and the obligatory flames. Paid almost $300 and wore it once. would be psyched to get $200 for it, but if yer interested make me an offer. :megaman:

Sorry, I don't remember the back of that helmet because I was always in front of you... Maybe you'll come out to our next group ride, and I'll take a mucher closer look from behind?

So that's how you have so many posts...

Yeah, I think I'm going to set your post count to "Post Whore". :)

I can't blame him for looking at your ass since it is such a nice one....with all the rest of your nice assets... in body, mind and soul. LOL just not to smart to be looking at them when in a trun...on a bike that he may not have total control of.
